Us Angry Supporters
As some of you may have heard Aden and I recently attended an Obama rally here in St. Louis. At the time it was his largest rally in North America to date, but he’s recently drawn crowds in excess of the 150,000+ that attended the one we were at under the Gateway Arch. You can read about our experience here.
After we attended the rally we had some fun stealing an Obama sign. I’m sure Aden intends to write a detailed post on the ironic events that transpired.
I’m posting today with regard to the apparent right-wing shock at how virile us Obama supporters have become. There seem to be a multitude of articles written about how Obama has deceived the nation into thinking he’s more moderate than he actually is. He apparently wants to turn America into *gasp* Sweden, with their healthy children and shared prosperity. They want to know what happened to their country , where “McCain” is rhymed with “Insane” and Sarah Palin is shown hanging on front lawns in California.
Well, as a virile Obama supporter I can shed some light on this. I feel as though Republicans stole the past two elections. They created conditions that led to the disenfranchisement of thousands. Too many poor communities are forced to wait in line for hours, intentionally harassed by lawyers and left confused by ballots. While McCain focuses on ACORN and fraudulent voter registrations he silmultaneously builds an army of lawyers looking to prevent Obama supporters from having their voices heard.
Well, I’m angry, and I can’t wait to vote. I want wealth to be redistributed. I want healthcare. I want same sex couples to have the same rights as every other committed couple. I want women’s rights to be protected. I want diplomacy to be tried with even our most difficult enemies. I’m not being deceived by Obama and I’m not tolerating four more years of reckless foreign policy, regressive social policies and trickle-down economics. I’m angry and ready to wait in line for 48 hours if necessary to make sure my vote is cast.
The reason why I and so many others are angry is because we’ve wanted this for years but have been consistently robbed of the opportunity. Not this year. We’re not going to let a pig-in-lipstick or a war monger stop us. We’re sick of liars and crooks treating Americans like idiots. McCain’s appalling selection of Palin was the most audacious attempt to trick us into voting for him. She might have a vagina, but Clinton’s supporters were voting for a lot more than her gender and are not that stupid.
Republicans aren’t winning this election with fear or pandering and it’s leaving them confused and shocked. W. led two of the most disengenous campaigns I’ve ever heard of and now suddenly all the people who voted for him and saying Obama is deceiving the nation and misrepresenting himself. At least he’s talking about what he plans to do in office, not raising emotional issues to distract voters into supporting him while ignoring what he plans to do. Dubya focused millions on gay marriage and abortion while starting wars, concentrating wealth in the top 5% of income earners and increasing deficit spending more than any other president in history.
So to answer the obsessed right: this is our country, Obama is our president; this is our year and I can’t wait.
